In June, Compton voters have the opportunity to keep the status quo or vote for change. There will certainly some kind of change coming to District 2 now that current Councilman Andre Spicer has dedicated to throw his hat in the mayoral race.
In the race for the council position in District 2, where is Spicer is abandoning for his mayoral aspirations, the contest will feature six candidates. Those candidates are Darrell Carter, Jace Dawson, Skyy Fisher, Bennie Tinson, Anthony Perry, and Alan Hamade.
With District 2 getting a new representative, the race for the mayor’s seat is anyone’s guess. The mayoral race for Compton expects to be wild with nine candidates, including current Mayor Emma Sharif, who is seeking reelection.
The race includes current Compton Councilman Andre Spicer and Omar Bradley Jr., Leroy Guillory, Anthony Moultrie, Marlon Wilkerson, John Hampton, Inez Adkins, and Arthur LeVias.
The large turnout for the mayor’s race suggest that there are quite a few people with a different vision in mind on how the city should be run.
In District 3, Jonathan Bowers is looking to retain his seat from Randall Louis-Hooks.
After a year on the job, City Clerk Satra Zurita will try to outduel Lynn Boone to keep her position. Brandon Mims is seeking to win the City Treasurer job over Maxwell Burke.
The Compton Chamber of Commerce will host a mayoral candidate forum at Compton College on March 28 from 12 noon to 3 p.m. inside of the student lounge/multipurpose room on the campus.
