LYNWOOD, CA – The SoCal Honda Dealers’ Helpful People in Blue spread Random Acts of Helpfulness by bringing a special surprise on Sept. 13 to over 340 Lugo Elementary School students, who received their very own book to ignite a love for reading and support their academic success.
The excited students, ranging from transitional kindergarten to sixth grade, were greeted by Helpful Honda People who distributed books by grade level, allowing the Lions to personalize their books during the special experience. The books were carefully selected in partnership with the school, ensuring they align with students’ reading levels and interests.
“Thank you, Honda, for coming to our school and giving us books,” said fifth-grader Roman Cervantes, who is serving as the 2024-25 ASB President. “It was really cool.”
Lugo Elementary teacher Tracy Ellis nominated the school to receive a Random Act of Helpfulness to encourage students to read and celebrate all high-achieving scholars at the Lugo campus.
“I feel our school is very special because we’re small, but we’re mighty and that’s why we’re the lions,” Ellis said. “I think it’s wonderful that our students were given this opportunity and it is my hope that they continue to develop their literacy skills and love of using their imagination through the wonderful world of books.”
The event not only brought joy to the students but also reinforced the Lynwood Unified School District’s commitment to literacy and educational achievement. By equipping students with the tools they need to thrive academically, this initiative helps foster a supportive and engaging learning environment.
“On behalf of Lynwood Unified and Lugo Elementary School, we are deeply grateful to the Helpful Honda people for their generous donation of free books to our amazing Lions,” Principal Paul Ceron, Ed.D., said. “This gift not only fosters a love of reading but also provides our scholars with the tools they need to succeed academically. By investing in our children’s education, we are all helping to build a brighter future for our community.”
