Darden releases Artesia Bridge update

District 4 Councilwoman Lillie P. Darden and her office have provided some updates surrounding the work around the Artesia Bridge project. For sure, there is still plenty of work to do before the historic bridge, shut down due to a fire in 2020.

Aid in the form of $12 million from the state has helped put the bridge on track to be up and running soon. The bridge is expected to open late this summer. With that said, metal bridge railings, concrete panels, and pin piles still need to be installed.

The on-ramp thoroughfares to Santa Fe Avenue and Alameda Street still need concrete asphalt to be poured in. That part of the project is scheduled take place sometime late summer. Residents can take heart that the project rounding near completion, which is estimated to have estimated businesses nearby.

Most of the structural work for the bridge has been put in place, including having a pedestrian sidewalk and median and safety rail installed. Handrails have been installed and structural steel have been placed.  The Artesia Bridge Repair project started in January and is expected to be completed by September, according to Darden’s office.
