Americans win USA Volleyball Cup

LONG BEACH, Calif. – Before heading to Paris to compete at the 2024 Olympics, the U.S. women’s national team played exhibition matches against the Netherlands nation team at the Walter Pyramid on the campus of Cal State University, Long Beach.

The U.S. women’s national team dominated play in the three matches that were played on July 10, July 12, and July 14, 2024.  The Americans beat Netherlands in five sets in the first game before sweeping the out-of-the-country visitors on Friday, July 12. On the final day of competition, the U.S. team prevailed, 3-1.

The United States is ranked No. 5 in the world whereas Netherlands sit at the No. 8 spot globally. Brazil is the world’s top-ranked team. The U.S. women’s national team won the gold medal in volleyball during the delayed 2020 (2021) Olympics and look forward to defending their title.

Standouts on the American team are outside hitter Avery Skinner, Jordan Thompson (opposite), Chiaka Ogbogu (middle), Haleigh Washington (middle), outside hitters Kathryn Plummer and Kelsey Robinson Cook as well as Libero Justine Wong-Orantes.
