Regional YouthBuild programs gather in Compton

COMPTON, Calif. – Staff from YouthBuild programs across the western United States gathered at Compton YouthBuild for the YouthBuild Western Regional Convening, a two-day conference to share best practices, resources and strategies in support of the young people they serve.

This convening was hosted on July 11 and 12 in partnership with YouthBuild USA, the nonprofit support center for a network of over 280 YouthBuild programs across the US and around the world, as well as YouthBuild Charter School of California and YouthBuild Collaborative of Southern California.

At YouthBuild programs, opportunity youth — young adults between the ages of 16 and 24 who are neither in school nor employed — build the skillsets and mindsets that lead to lifelong learning, livelihood and leadership.

Responding to the urgent need for knowledge, training, and opportunity, YouthBuild primarily serves young people who lack a high school diploma and financial resources.

The convening brought together YouthBuild program staff such as case managers, workforce developers, program managers and occupational trainers to attend speaking programs, workshops, and networking opportunities that enhance personal and programmatic growth.

Over 80 attendees shared in networking and building community while learning about diverse topics including case management, harnessing partnerships, and transformative leadership.

The YouthBuild Western Convening is the second of four regional convenings held in partnership with YouthBuild USA across the country. The first event, the Midwest Regional Convening, took place at Operation Fresh Start YouthBuild in Madison, Wisconsin.

About Compton YouthBuild Compton YouthBuild is dedicated to offering comprehensive services to the youth in Compton, CA. Each year, an average of 150 full-time members enroll in programs that offer an accredited high school diploma, along with apprenticeship readiness training in construction/trades and hospitality/culinary arts to earn industry-recognized credentials.

The organization supports young people in achieving their personal and professional goals, including successful completion of secondary programs and post-secondary courses. Emphasis is placed on civic engagement and community service.
