Sheriff’s department back boxing academy for youths

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Community Partnerships Bureau, in partnership with the Sheriff’s Youth Foundation celebrated the grand opening of the Freddie Roach Youth Boxing Academy.

Sheriff Robert G. Luna spoke about how the academy would bridge the gap between law enforcement, youth, and community. He was joined by Captain Geoffrey Deedrick, legendary boxing trainer Freddie Roach, and former World Boxing Champion Sugar Ray Leonard.

The Freddie Roach Youth Boxing Academy is located at the Sheriff’s Biscailuz Training Center situated in the heart of East Los Angeles. The boxing academy is scheduled to be open four days a week during after school hours.

This site will serve to provide a secure environment for the youth, encouraging physical activity, fostering sportsmanship, and, more importantly, nurturing positive relationships between law enforcement and the community.

Its mission is to cultivate inclusivity, offering skill development opportunities and unrivaled training sessions led by renowned boxers and trainers, including members of our esteemed LASD Boxing Team.
