Compton Unified School District welcomes new Board of Trustees member Michael Hooper. He was officially sworn in on Saturday, April 13 in an intimate reception at the district offices.

Hooper was elected in the March 5 Primary and represents Area D in the Compton Unified School District. He is replacing board member Charles Davis.
The intimate swearing-in ceremony was attended by more than 100 people in the CUSD Board Room and included current Board President Denzell Perry, Board Members Sandra Moss, Alma Taylor Pleasant, and Charles Davis, as well as Compton Unified Superintendent Dr. Darin Brawley.
Former CUSD Board Member Mae Thomas, City of Compton Councilman Andre Spicer, Compton City Attorney Eric Perrodin, and several others gave short remarks about Hooper.
Hooper is a social worker for Los Angeles County, working for the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS). In 2023, he earned his Masters of Social Work from California State University, Long Beach.
Throughout his career he has gained diverse experience and skills working in various fields. Michael worked at PepsiCo for 18 years, with his last position being a Key Account Manager.
Michael has two years of social work internship experience, one year working with Compton Unified School District and another year working with The Department of Children and Family Services.
Within those two years of internship experience, he has enhanced his skills in case management, risk assessment, crisis intervention, and investigations of child abuse, neglect, and exploitation.
Michael grew up in Compton, graduated from Dominguez High School, and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications Studies and a Minor in Black Studies from California State University, Long Beach.
