Barbara Lee endorsed for Senate by Martin Luther King III

Martin Luther King III, humanitarian and the son of famed civil rights leader, activist, and Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr., announced his resounding endorsement of Congresswoman and candidate for U.S. Senate Barbara Lee.

King’s endorsement was announced days before Martin Luther King Day, the national holiday commemorating MLK Jr.’s life and legacy.

King, a renowned human rights advocate, adds his voice to a powerful assembly of 90 Black religious leaders throughout California who echo support for Congresswoman Lee for prioritizing the most vulnerable members in society, and advancing policies that uplift their needs.

Clergy like Rev. James Lawson of Los Angeles and Reverend Philip Lawson of Richmond, showcase the broad geographical reach of the faith leaders coalescing around Rep. Lee’s campaign.

“Dr. King’s vision for our country did not end with desegregation — that was simply the first step towards a world without discrimination, poverty, and war. His conviction was guided by his faith, and was imparted into the family he loved dearly,” said Congresswoman Lee.

“As a Black woman who grew up in a small, segregated town, to say I’m honored to have the support of purveyors of his legacy is an understatement. In the Senate, I will stand shoulder to shoulder with freedom fighters like Martin and this outstanding coalition of clergy to champion the ideology and action of Dr. King.”

The endorsements of MLK III and the statewide alliance of faith leaders standing behind Rep. Lee’s run is the latest demonstration of the deep resonance of her peace-driven record and distinct lens of racial, gender, and social justice with California’s communities of color.

If elected, Lee will be the only Black woman serving in the United States Senate.
