Attention Compton! City Clerk Vernell McDaniel along with the City Clerk’s Staff would like to remind you that you can always read about and get the most up-to-date City of Compton Election news and legal notices in the weekly edition of the Compton Bulletin, the only adjudicated paper that serves the Compton Community.

The Compton Bulletin is the only “Official Newspaper” in the City of Compton.

The Bulletin is published weekly, every Wednesday. Printed copies are available at Compton City Hall, Compton Library, Dollarhide Senior Center as well as retail locations throughout the city. For your convenience, an online edition is also available each week at News4usonline.com

The Compton Bulletin which is a newspaper of general circulation, in the state of California, must be used to publish City of Compton “legal notices,” official advertisements, City of Compton Election information, Bids, and other Public Notices which by law must be published in a “newspaper of general circulation” to be valid and effective.

Newspapers do not automatically qualify as “newspapers of general circulation.” Only a court can decree a newspaper as one of “general circulation,” and once a newspaper obtains such an order, it is said to have attained “adjudicated status,” permitting it to publish legal notices for particular geographic regions – … Source (Davis Wright Tremaine, LLP 11/2016)

Compton City Charter Section 614 Publishing of Legal Notices states that In the event there is only one newspaper of general circulation published in the City, then the City Council shall have the power to contract with such newspaper for the printing and publication of such legal notices without being required to advertise for bids therefore.
